River of Hands

Offering into the greater work

Are you trying to carry alone something that was always meant to move through many hands?

You care enormously about what you have taken responsibility for. You are dependable, committed, and willing to put your own hands to the work when something matters to you. People can trust you to show up.

The Energy

When we care deeply about something, it can begin to feel as though we need to do everything ourselves. We need to understand the whole problem, hold the whole vision, protect what matters, and make sure the work is done properly.

River of Hands reminds us that big work rarely belongs to one person.

Each of us brings something different into the flow: our skills, ideas, creativity, care, experience, labour and understanding. We offer what is ours to give, and allow other hands to receive it, add to it and carry it further.

We do not have to hold the whole river. We only have to offer our hands to its flow.

The Invitation

Important work can become something we try to possess or protect. We may struggle to trust other people with it, or believe that because we care deeply, we have to know what should happen next.

River of Hands asks us to let the work become larger than our own contribution to it.

Offer what you have openly. Receive what others bring. Let their different skills, perspectives and creativity take the work somewhere you could not have taken it alone.

What matters does not have to belong to us in order for our contribution to matter.

A Way Through

Notice where you are carrying too much because you believe responsibility means doing it yourself.

Ask what is genuinely yours to contribute, and where the work is asking for other hands.

What can you offer into the river, trusting others to carry it further?
