First Listener

The gift of attentive presence

What would you say if you felt truly heard?

You know how much it matters to be truly heard. You have thoughts, feelings and experiences that deserve more than a quick response or easy assumption. There is so much in you worth taking the time to understand.

The Energy

Listening is not only something we do with our ears. It is a quality of attention.

First Listener asks what becomes possible when we meet experience with enough curiosity and patience for something to reveal itself in its own terms. Attention can make room for discovery

The Invitation

Sometimes we are so focused on being understood that we lose our curiosity about what another person is trying to tell us. Sometimes the movement needs to happen in the other direction: we need to ask to be heard in our own terms, for our own sake.

Witnessing does not require immediate understanding, agreement or response. It begins with making enough room for what is here to become visible.

A Way Through

In a conversation that feels stuck, experiment with a different quality of attention. Listen without preparing your answer, or ask clearly for the same kind of listening in return.

What might become possible if neither of you thought you already knew what the other person means?
