The Winding

Entering the world-flow: The wisdom to yield. The power to shape.

When did fighting or giving in become your default ways of meeting the world?

You have incredible endurance. You have found your way through so many challenges and turmoils. You know how to keep going, adapt and find another way through.

The Energy

The Winding reminds us that all rivers, and all lives, must change as they meet the world. Rivers widen, deepen and slow where life needs shelter. They gather speed where movement is needed, wind around what will not yield, churn through rocky ground, and sometimes reach a precipice where the only way into new terrain is to let go and fall.

The river belongs to all of these movements. It does not demand stillness when the terrain calls for turbulence, or mistake turbulence for failure. Our inner lives move this way too: not every feeling needs to be calmed or resolved before we can trust ourselves to continue.

The Invitation

The river changes the world by flowing into it. It meets what it finds, allows itself to be changed by the encounter, and reshapes the relationship between self and world as it moves.

There is power in both movements. We claim power by allowing ourselves to be shaped, and we claim power by shaping the world in turn. In uncertain terrain, we can easily become caught at either extreme: resisting what we cannot control, or becoming so accustomed to adapting that we forget we can affect what happens next.

The Winding asks for something more fluid. Where can you soften into what is? Where can you begin changing what could be?

A Way Through

You don't have to know the whole course of the river. Meet the terrain that is here. Let yourself feel what this part of the journey actually brings, and choose your movement from there.
